As you may know, mixing, also known as re-recording mixing in film and TV post sound, is an intricate form of craft where all the sound elements are combined to achieve a desired sonic balance  and blended in a way that is interesting, pleasing and clear. In post-production sound, this includes the edited dialogue ADR and Walla recorded lines, Sound Design elements, Foley recorded sound,  Background sound, and, last but not least, all Music elements.

Sound design is a key component of the overall post-production sound.  

At Soundchef, we have the capabilities to “sound design” (create unique sound effects) by putting together, layering and processing in a particular way pre-recorded sound effects, recorded on-site or from sound libraries, and seamlessly integrate these newly created “sound designed” elements with the existing audio sounds.

More so, the final selected ADR takes are blended flawlessly into the final mix, as if they were part of the original production sound. That is the ultimate goal of a great ADR recording session.

About ADR: 

Automated Dialog Replacement is the process of re-recording dialogue by the original actor after the filming process has ended. This is normally used to either replace bad quality dialogue audio or reflect dialogue changes requested by the director or producer of the project.

Our staff of talented foley artists and sound designers come with years of experience in the art of recording and creating sound effects for films and television.

During our Foley recording sessions, sound effects are re-recorded live in the studio to replace or add to the existing production sound of a film. These recordings can be anything from the sound of silverware while having dinner, to pouring wine in a glass, to footsteps, to sitting on a chair, to clothes being rustled or any other sound effect that is needed for the film. 

Fun Fact: Foley gets its name from Jack Foley who was a well known Sound Effects artist in the early 1900s.

Our expert dialogue editors assemble all the different dialogue sound clips that come from different takes and edit them to create flawless, continuous dialogue tracks ready for the final mix. Often, sounds from different takes will be very dissimilar depending on placement of the microphone(s), proximity to the speaking actors as well as reflections from surrounding walls, ceiling, etc.
